A Rhode Island general power of attorney form permits a principal to designate an agent to handle all their financial, business, and investment affairs while they are mentally competent. The person chosen by the principal is legally referred to as an “agent” or “attorney-in-fact,” and the responsibilities granted in the form allow for unrestricted financial representation on the principal’s behalf. The agent may not be compensated or benefit from any decision made. Unlike the durable version, this form does not remain in effect if the principal, or person being represented, should become incapacitated or no longer able to think with a clear mind.
