A North Carolina minor power of attorney form is a document that enables parents to assign a trusted adult the right to make parental decisions regarding their child, usually for a limited duration. Sometimes, a parent may need to be away from their child due to obligations such as work, training, military deployment, or illness. During these absences, parents can appoint an attorney-in-fact to act as their representative in caring for their child. State law doesn’t set a limit on how long the power of attorney can last, but most temporary appointments are for a maximum of six months before they must be renewed. If the parent only needs healthcare decisions to be delegated to an agent, they can assign one using a document constructed in accordance with Chapter 32A, Article 4: Consent to Health Care for Minor (§ 32A-34).
