A West Virginia general power of attorney form grants an individual the ability to select someone else, known as an “agent,” to have unlimited power with regard to the management of another individual’s finances. This document is an exact duplicate of the durable power of attorney except that it does not stay in effect if the principal should become incapacitated. The agent may represent the principal in all of the following ways:

  • Real property;
  • Tangible personal property;
  • Stocks and bonds;
  • Commodities and options;
  • Banks and other financial institutions;
  • Operation of entity or business;
  • Insurance and annuities;
  • Estates, trusts, and other beneficial interests;
  • Claims and litigation;
  • Personal and family maintenance;
  • Benefits from government programs or civil or military service;
  • Retirement plans;
  • Taxes.
